Cancellation of Aletsch Half-Marathon 2020

The board and management have decided to cancel the 35th Aletsch Half-Marathon on 21 June and the Saturday races on 20 June 2020. This decision was taken to protect the health of all those involved. Next year’s event will be held on the weekend of 19–20 June 2021.

In light of the extraordinary situation, the health of runners, helpers and all participating partners takes priority. Even though the Federal Council’s decisions are understandable, it pains us very much to cancel the event. Interest in the Aletsch Half-Marathon 2020 was again overwhelming, and the participant limit was reached by February 2020. The high level of uncertainty at the moment makes optimum planning impossible. Waiting even longer before cancelling would only have resulted in even higher costs. This decision also gives the registered runners clarity and enables them to plan reliably.

The entry fee paid by the runners in 2020 will be automatically carried over to 2021 without any follow-on costs, even though the Aletsch Half-Marathon has already made major investments in the current year.

Organising committee and managing director: “We would like to thank everyone involved for their enormous support and solidarity, especially all runners, sponsors, service providers and our staff. Next year, the 35th edition of the Aletsch Half-Marathon will take place on the weekend of 19–20 June 2021.”

Due to the current situation with Covid-19, this message will be sent in electronic form only.
